How much does a shortcut save?

Topic Category: Point of View

In business shortcuts don’t exist, they’re just another way of doing something.

A shortcut is simply not doing all the work that is necessary to get it right the first time. So if you’re satisfied with something that is partially complete – the “that’s good enough approach” you might say a shortcut saves you time and money.

But, a “that’s good enough approach” also speaks volumes about you and your company to your clients and customers. Now think about how much time and money a shortcut is costing you.

So what happens when faced with the realization that taking the shortcut was a mistake? You are either going to have to invest more time and money to create temporary patchwork, or you are going to have to start from scratch and do it right. Either way, it is going to require that you sink more time and money to deal with the shortcut you took.

So, when you start to add it all up how much did that great bargain of a shortcut cost you not only in time and money but in what you presented to your clients and customers?

Shortcuts are front-end shortsighted costly mistakes. Save your money and your time  – do it right the first time.
